I had the enormous honour to promote several Jackie Leven shows in Palma de Mallorca (2002 and 2003). And I was totally devastated when I read about the big man passing away. Warmest regards to Deborah. He will be extremely missed in this little Mediterranean spot
would it be possible for the administrators of this site to post up Jackie's old monthly diary entries from the old Haunted Valley site? Would love to read them again.
Caught Jackie live on over 20 occasions and each was a real treat.
Once had the dilemma of 3 gigs on the same night
- TV Smith
- Tom robinson/Martyn Joseph
- Jackie Leven
Mr Leven naturally got my vote.
Saw him at his penultimate gig in Brighton in Aug 2011.
Have to say I was shocked when I saw him. I barely recognized him. I knew something was wrong.
The voice was the same pure quality but it wasn't the same aggressive bolshy Jackie on stage.
I had no idea he was suffering from cancer.
Only found out about his death at the end of Dec.
Absolutely devastated. I feel I have lost a family member.
Can we not organise a JACKIE LEVEN rememberance night sometime this year in London and get Michael Weston King, Tom Robinson, Andy White and possibly Martyn Joseph to play the songs of Jackie.
It would be a great tribute.
to find this out on January 14 doesnt lessen the impact, its hard to find words that reflect my thoughts right now, but iremember fondly taking my daughter aged 4 at the time to see Jackie in Katoomba. Mid show she dozed and dropped a drink into my lap, Jackie saw it happen, stopped singing and asked was I ok, would i like him to wait while i fixed everything up and then he would resume. R I P beautiful guy, thanks so much for the music
The world's as sadder place for your loss, enjoy your journey. So glad we met, so honoured to do index, thank you for the explanation of the staff I brought you.

Visited the website to check on a December 'pull-up-the-roots' London date Jackie was scheduled for this month. Saw the RIP notice. ! My god. Had no idea he was ill. 61! Christ. I had a drink for him that night. Had the pleasure of seeing J play 3 times in recent years. Glad I have. Met him brielfly at all 3. J and Chris Wood are pretty much the only two live acts Id see more than twice and both at every avail' opportunity. I emailed Chris Wood to say 'you're on your own now mate'. Jackie's passing means so much more than just fantastic songcrafting, brilliant guitar work and 1st class lyrics to me - 'The Deep Pool' is one of my favouritte places to be. Its special to me. I hope they (whoever they may be) post archives on there. Youre not dead in my mind mate. Very sincere condolences to his Wife.
It was a privilege to have heard and to have met you DownUnder in Sydney, WOMADelaide, Barossa Valley and at NZ Womad, the shows were simply outstanding...will be sorely missed. Rest in Peace Jackie.
I was so sad to hear of Jackie's passing. We were friends many years ago. We had a mutual friend, Scots John. I lost touch and now it breaks my heart to hear you are both gone but I think of you with my heart broken but can't help smile at fun times we had around Maida Vale. Always in my heart
Just enjoyed your Rockpalast 2004 gig for the umpteenth time. So beautiful. What a great guy. Will never forget the times I've seen you perform Jackie and I can't believe I won't be seeing you play live again. Rest in peace. God Bless.
